We had a relaxing day today. We started off with a short walk to a nearby butterfly garden where we learned about the life cycle of butterflies and their importance in the ecosystem. At this particular garden, there were 25 different kinds of butterflies - all different colors and sizes. I was pretty amazing to see so many butterflies in one place. We learned that whatever shampoo Cheyenne used really attracted them and that Gerrit was the butterfly whisperer. We had fun seeing how many we could get to land on us.

From there, we had to say goodbye to our hosts at Casa del Suiza and boarded our boats to take us back to our bus and start our journey back to Quito. We stopped in Beaza for lunch at Gina's, for a local favorite - either grilled trout or fried trout. The place was really busy and the leaders helped the owner, Gina, and her family take orders and serve the food. The food was good and we had bananas with hot fudge on them for dessert.
After a short drive, we arrived at our stop for the night at Termas Papallacta. This resort has hot springs in front of the rooms that you can enjoy whenever you want so after settling into the rooms, most of us took a dip in the springs, even though it was cold again - 55 degrees!!!!

For dinner, our tour guide, bus driver, Ecuador Quo staff and the staff at the hotel prepared a 4th of July surprise party for us, with decorations and a cake. When we all arrived for dinner, they were playing the Star Spangled Banner and really made of feel welcomed being for far away from home on our independence day. It was such a nice way to end the day.
Looking forward to tomorrow and continuing the journey.
