Starting Journey into the Amazon

We had an early start this morning heading back down the mountain to Banos and a short time exploring this quaint little town.  We went to the most important church in Banos, Basilica de Neustra Senora de Agua Santa, where they were in the midst of celebrating mass.  If the kids wanted to, they were able to light candles for loved ones.  We walked around and went to a candy shop where we got to watch them make taffy from pure sugar cane.  We also went to a local food market and some of the kids were chosen to go purchase some fruit from local vendors.

Once back on the bus again, we headed to Pailon del Diablo, and beautiful waterfall.  To get to about mid way of the waterfall, we walked down and then back up a small way.  The view was spectacular.  Some of us decideed to go a little farther up and go behind the falls.  To get there, we had to basically crawl on hands and knees through a cave and then back up though small passageways.  Definitely worth the extra effort to get there.

We made our way back to the bus and started to head to the Amazon and the Casa del Suizo.  It was about a 3 hour drive to the drop off point, where we boarded motorized canoes to take us to the resort.  It has been raining off and on all day and we decided to move our community visit to tomorrow when we had free time and enjoyed some downtime this evening swimming in the pool in the rain or relaxing in our cabanas.

Tomorrow it is off to explore more of the Amazon and take in the beauty of this country.
